My History
Hi, I'm George and this is the history of Knives, By George.
My career is a little backwards, as you see, after high school I enjoyed a 20-year career as an electrician and millwright. twelve of which was renovating a mill in a gold mine originally built in 1933. Then I went to college and earned a degree in Metallurgical Engineering. Thereafter I spent 20 years designing and building concentrator mills in mines all over the world. Now I am a starving artist making knives. I used to hunt and fish a lot as well as cooking what I brought home. I have always had an appreciation for fine knives used in all aspects of food preparation.
Knives, By George grew out of a hobby from making cutlery and utility knives for personal use, to unique gifts for family and friends. After Retirement, this hobby became a full-time business when I realized that I made cutlery that rivaled the best mass-produced knives on the market. My goal is to make quality knives for sportsmen in the field and quality cutlery for the kitchen. High quality fine tools for use not museum grade art for display. I use the premium grade blade steels with natural hardwood handles (or antlers). The blades are tempered to 60 Rockwell hardness. Hard enough for great edge retention and yet relatively soft enough to be sharpened with an Arkansas Stone. Every knife comes with a heavy-duty handmade leather sheath or bamboo drawer rack.
